Sealed Bottle Ecosystem: Thriving for Over 60 Years with Just One Watering.

In 1960, David Latimer planted a glass bottle with seeds, creating a self-sustaining sealed ecosystem. Despite not watering it since 1972, the garden is still thriving, thanks to photosynthesis and natural recycling processes. Light is the only external input needed, driving plant growth and nutrient cycling.

The ecosystem relies on photosynthesis to produce oxygen and carbohydrates, while cellular respiration breaks down organic matter and stores nutrients for nighttime. Water is cycled through plant roots, transpiration, and condensation, creating a continuous cycle.

This experiment showcases nature's ability to support itself and has drawn interest from experts to sees potential applications in space exploration.
